SUN, J. M., J. F. FU, R. J. ZHOU and X. R. YAN, 2013. Influence of exogenously applied methyl jasmonate Cylindrocarpon Destructans in vitro. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 19: 530-535 Methyl jasmonate (MeJA), which is one of the plant lipid derivatives, is considered as a signaling substance during plantmicrobe interactions. It is related to plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress. To assess the influence of MeJA on soil pathogens, the direct effect of artificially applied MeJA on Cylindrocarpon destructans (a soilborne pathogen causing root rot of ginseng) was evaluated. MeJA strongly inhibited its growth and spore germination, whereas it stimulated phytopathogenic enzyme activities of this pathogen. The colony diameter of C. destructans on PDA decreased from 8.23 ± 0.15 cm (control) to 0.71 ± 0.00 cm (800 mg/L). The biomass was reduced by 65.3-100% and the percent of spore germination and germ-tube lengths were decreased by 100% at concentrations higher than 400 mg/L. Pectinase, cellulase, and amylase activities were stimulated at higher concentrations of MeJA, while the activity of protease was little changed. It was concluded that MeJA greatly inhibited C. destructans growth and spore germination, but stimulated activities of hydrolytic enzymes of C. destructans at higher doses.

Effect of Salinity Stress and Exogenously Applied Methyl Jasmonate on Growth and Physiological Traits of Two Carthamus tinctorius Varieties

Salinity stress is one of the main limiting factors for optimum agricultural productivity of safflower, Carthamus tinctorius L., in arid and semi-arid regions. It could leads to significant changes in plant biochemical, physiological, and growth traits. Salinity induced endogenous rise in jasmonic acid and its methyl esters (MeJA) has been reported. In the present study, effects of salinity str...

The Effect of Fungicides on Mycelial Growth and Conidial Germination of the Ginseng Root Rot Fungus, Cylindrocarpon destructans

Ginseng root rot caused by Cylindrocarpon destructans is the most destructive disease of ginseng. Six different fungicides (thiophanate-methyl, benomyl, prochloraz, mancozeb, azoxystrobin, and iprodione) were selected to evaluate the inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth and conidial germination of C. destructans isolates. Benomyl and prochloraz were found to be the most effective fungicides...

Neonectria liriodendri sp. nov., the main causal agent of black foot disease of grapevines

Black foot disease is a serious disease of grapevine crops in most areas where vines are grown. Mainly two species of Cylindrocarpon, C. destructans and C. macrodidymum, are associated with this disease. Recent studies have revealed a tremendous molecular variation within the former but only slight molecular variation within the latter, indicating that C. destructans presents a complex of sever...

Effects of Methyl Jasmonate and Chitosanon Shoot and Callus Growth of Iranian Hypericum perforatum L. in vitro Cultures

The present study was investigated the effects of two elicitors methyl jasmonate (0, 125, 250 and 500 µM) and chitosan (0, 50, 150 and 250 mg L-1) on shoot and callus growth of Iranian Hypericum perforatumL. in vitro cultures in separate experiments. The experiment was done in the base of completely randomized design with five replications and five explants in each replication. Methyl jasmonate...

Cylindrocarpon pauciseptatum sp. nov., with notes on Cylindrocarpon species with wide, predominantly 3-septate macroconidia.

A Cylindrocarpon species with up to 10 microm wide, straight and predominantly 3-septate macroconidia, subglobose to ovoidal microconidia and chlamydospores, is described as Cyl. pauciseptatum. It is most similar to Cyl. austrodestructans but no chlamydospores and microconidia are formed in the latter. Similar macroconidia also occur in Cyl. theobromicola, which forms oval to ellipsoidal microc...
